Introduction
Large Mining Company in development phase is seeking to appoint an experienced Buyer who will report directly to the Procurement Officer and will serve as a member of the Procurement Team. Position will be based at our Mine Site situated in the Greater Tubatse area, within the Sekhukhune District Municipality, in Limpopo Province.
Job description

Procurement Strategy & Market Analysis:

  • Ensure all purchases are made considering the best Price, Quality, and Performance.
  • Keep abreast and support the revie and analysis of market analysis trends, pricing developments, and current product and supply news to inform procurement decisions.
  • Utilize creative international and local sourcing strategies by leveraging all available resources.
  • Assist in developing and implementing procurement strategies aligned with organizational goals, including cost reduction and sustainability initiatives.

Procurement Operations & Process Management:

  • Source new goods and services upon request from the Procurement Superintendent and end-users/originators.
  • Obtain required signatures according to matrix approval procedures.
  • Generate, process, and send purchase orders to suppliers for supplies, services, and equipment.
  • Ensure prompt and accurate delivery of goods to end users.
  • Reconcile or resolve order and invoice discrepancies, and contract queries efficiently and in a timely manner.
  • Maintain open order reports weekly; monitor tracking and close outstanding orders to minimize backlogs.
  • Facilitate supplier onboarding, maintaining accurate records, including BEE Certificates and affidavits, updated annually.
  • Implement and monitor supplier performance, including after-sales service, warranties, repairs, and returns.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procurement procedures, and relevant legal legislation.
  • Maintain accurate and secure records of procurement activities, ensuring data privacy and confidentiality in compliance with POPIA legislation.
  • Assist in the selection of appropriate suppliers and contractors, to promote sustainable and ethical procurement practices, supporting supplier diversity and local spend initiatives.

Supplier & Stakeholder Relationship Management:

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with suppliers, stakeholders, and internal customers.
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams to deliver a timely, efficient procurement service.
  • Drive BEE and local spend initiatives in collaboration with transactional purchasing teams.
  • Support supplier performance reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.

Cost Management & Financial Analysis:

  • Assist in improving operational cost analysis to identify savings opportunities and enhance financial performance.
  • Record and optimize monthly auditable savings from transactional purchases.
  • Control budget utilization, avoiding wastage, and managing resources efficiently.

Quality & Compliance Assurance:

  • Ensure procurement activities adhere to company policies, procedures, and applicable legislation.
  • Conduct regular audits of procurement records, including vendor information and supply chain documentation.
  • Guarantee that all procurement activities are ethically sound, sustainable, and promote best practices.
  • Monitor and report on non-compliance issues and recommend corrective actions.

Operational & Administrative Support:

  • Assist in materials, services, and contract administration as needed.
  • Handle complaint resolution, investigation, and discussions concerning procurement issues.
  • Ensure the proper and timely completion of adjudication documents to support decision-making.
  • Maintain accurate vendor information in systems like SAP and other procurement databases.
  • Carry out any other duties as assigned by management to support procurement and operational excellence.

Performance Management & Team Development:

  • Enforce the Company’s ‘Code of Conduct’ and promote ethical behaviour within the team.
  • Advise management on necessary training and development needs for procurement staff.
  • Create a high-performing, collaborative team environment grounded in positive employee relations.
  • Manage performance against set targets and competencies, conducting appraisals and providing feedback.
  • Ensure employee schedules, responsibilities, and safety standards are maintained and adhered to.
  • Conduct risk assessments and communicate safety procedures to staff.
  • Manage labour stability, assist in achieving HDSA/female targets, and foster good stakeholder relationships.
  • Do routine workplace safety activities and manage discipline positively.

Health & Safety Management:

  • Ensure all procurement and operational activities are conducted in accordance with health and safety standards.
  • Manage and participate in safety audits, risk assessments, and emergency preparedness.
  • Ensure compliance with safety legislation and company risk mitigation policies.
Strategic & Tactical Planning:
  • Assist with the development and execution of the department’s Strategic Plan.
  • Identify deviations or non-conformances, plan and implement corrective actions to ensure attainment of the department plan.
  • Contribute to Tactical planning by ensuring safety precautions, environmental controls, and workplace health initiatives are implemented and monitored.

Stay informed about legislative changes affecting procurement and supply chain operations.

Lead or participate in cross-departmental projects to improve procurement processes.

Demonstrate flexibility by working overtime, standby, or shifts as needed, ensuring compliance with BCEA regulations.

Any other responsibility that can be reasonably expected in this role / function.

Minimum requirements

Qualifications:

  • National Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or equivalent.
  • Diploma in Purchasing / Procurement / Supply Chain or similar field.
  • CIPS Qualification advantageous.
  • Valid Driver’s License.

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Procurement Administrator / Buyer or a similar role within the Mining Industry.

Language Requirements:

  • English: Fully Proficient.
  • Sepedi: Verbally Proficient advantageous.
  • Fanakalo: Verbally Proficient advantageous.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Computer literate (MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook).
  • Knowledge of Procurement systems such as SAP.
  • Reasonable technical knowledge of mining and related equipment.
  • Understanding of procurement lifecycle, sourcing, and contract management
  • Knowledge of procurement laws, relevant legislation and ethical sourcing standards.
  • Budgeting, financial analysis, and identifying savings opportunities
  • Good interpersonal skills, including communication and negotiation skills.
  • Good organisational and administrative skills.
  • Ability to perform under pressure and meet targets and deadlines.
  • Able to resolve conflicts and problems.
  • Able to consistently remain objective and ethical in business practices.

Additional Requirements:

  • Medically fit to work on a mine.
